Queues were a common sight during the war when shortages were acute, but this one was seen in Gisborne on Easter Monday—for the morning newspaper.

A poppy for remembrance was the theme in Gisborne on the Friday before Anzac Day, when dozens of voluntary helpers aided the local R.S.A. with the annual appeal. Here Messrs Clark and Norton outfit Mrs Oxenham, one of the collectors, with her tray of poppies.

Although wet weather washed out the final stages of the Easter bowling championships at Gisborne, the tournament was judged a most enjoyable one, and high praise of the organisation was given by visitors. This photograph was taken on the Kahutia greens on Easter Monday.
