Winter Sports

Bleak sunshine and a biting wind provided the right atmosphere for the opening of the winter sports season in Gisborne on April 24. Grounds, often like concrete at that time of the year, were soft and green for the opening.

Hockey and soccer games in progress at the Childers Road reserve.

Basketball games in progress at the local courts. Over 50 teams took part in play on the first day, demonstrating again the wonderful popularity of basketball as a sport for girls.
