Traffic Officer Fred Stade, Transport Department officer at Nelson for the last 2½ years, has been transferred to a one-man station at Hokitika. With him will go wife Pam, and children Julie, Karen and Brian. Both Fred and Pam have lived in Nelson all their lives
New Zealand middleweight boxing champion, Graham McNamara, with wife, Maria, and family, Linda and Allan, leaving Nelson on the first stage of a boxing tour to Fiji and New Caledonia. Graham is leader of the team. He won his two bouts in Fiji, but lost his one fight in New Caledonia.
The opening of the season of the United Ladies' Bowling Club was also a redletter day for club stalwarts, Ella and Huia Burridge, for it was their silver wedding anniversary. Ella is secretary of the ladies' club, and Huia president of the men's club.
