Great Year For Sea Cadets

The Nelson Sea Cadet Corps (T. S. Talisman) can look back on an extremely successful 1967. Towards the end of the year the corps received word that it had won the King George V unit shoot in New Zealand and its score, an average of 95%, might yet bring it Commonwealth honours. This trophy is competed for by all cadet units in the services. Then the corps shooting team won the Duke of Edinburgh trophy shoot, beating all other New Zealand sea cadet units. Here again the corps is in the running for a high place in the Commonwealth contest. By topping New Zealand for the King George V shoot, the unit also won the Governor General's trophy, and a further shooting trophy has been presented to it by the Naval Board. Our pic above of the whole unit, was taken by the Peter Cooper Studio on Anzac Day. Our other pix were taken during the presentation of awards by Mrs Betty Eyre, deputy-Mayor, at an end-of-season function.

Hay's Corner shortly after 5 and at other peak periods is a bottleneck. Traffic from the port piles up at the junction and causes no end of frustration. This is aggravated by the "with it" drivers who duck out of the line and shoot off to the metalled road on the left. Here there are no "Give Way" signs and they are able to hurry through. Recently the Automobile Association, headed by president Eric Coote, met Transport Department officers and Cr Les White, to try and find a solution. We understand there's little than can be done.
