An Old Identity Passes
It was with a deep sense of loss that we learned of the death late last month of Mr F. N.(Fred) Jones, a man who in his lifetime worked for the happiness of others and whose personality and pleasant outlook on life made him a friend of all with whom he came into contact. We knew Fred for less than two years, only long enough for us to regret that we had not known him longer. We had seen his "Pixietown" as countless thousands of others had seen it and derived pleasure from it; we saw and listened to his fascinating collection of vintage phonographs, and wo have printed in these pages many pictures that he took when he was in business as a commercial photographer. Many Nel-sonians will remember his other creation, Coney Park, and the fun they had there. His one ambition in life seemed to be to make others happy, and if he succeeded, as he did, then he was happy also. A colourful era in the history of Nelson has passed with Fred's death. But death cannot erase memories from those who are left, and his many friends will remember him for a long, long time.
