New Pool for Nayland Road School

Through the efforts of parents and friends of the school, children attending Nayland Road school, Stoke, have a swimming pool. The remarkable progress made at the school - it was opened only last year - has been achieved through a wonderful community effort. The pool, the latest project at the school, was built entirely by voluntary labour in the evenings and at weekends. The men laid 60 cu.yds of concrete for the 60 x 15ft pool and its surround, built a 6ft wire fence and a dressing-shed for boys and girls, all within three months. Piping has been laid for fluoridation and this will be installed when finance permits. Above, a group of volunteers put the finishing touches to the surroundings and below, children take the first plunge under the eye of Mr H. W. Chisnall, a member of the Education Board, who opened the pool.
