Chatham Cup Tie a Thriller

Nelson United scored one of the major upsets in the first round of the Gillette Chatham Cup, when they beat National League side Wellington City, 1-0, in an exciting game at Neale Park. As a spectacle the encounter was not consistently bright, but it did reach an exciting pitch when United proved they could more than match their opponents. A corner from Willie Carr was pushed into City's net by their own keeper, Graham Yuile. At the time of writing, United had just won itself a place in the quarter-finals after soundly beating Kiwi United (Palmerston North), 4-0, in the second round.
