50 Years of Football Celebrated
The Nelson Football Association celebrated its 50th anniversary with a dinner at the Wakatu Hotel. The guest speaker at the function was the Rothmans national soccer coach Barry Truman and the toastmaster was Gwyn Evans, director of coaching for Nelson United. Among the guests were several longstanding association members including Syd Guppy, who has been president for 15 years.

These four gentlemen have been associated with soccer for a long time. Mr A. R. Hurst, a life member of the NFA, first played in 1922 and was association president for five years; Mr K. M. Black is association patron; Mr A. Smith is a life member and Syd Guppy, president for the last 15 years, is also a life member
