Hatch Cup Goes North
Canterbury's stranglehold on the Hatch Cup, for schoolboy hockey, was broken in the annual tournament in Nelson. Auckland beat Ashburton 3-2 in a gripping final after Ashburton had pipped Canterbury 1-0 in a semi-final. Nineteen teams competed. The host side, Nelson, finished sixth equal with Wellington. The national schoolboy tournament was a success. Why not a national men's competition in Nelson?
