Nile Street Properties Flooded

From Cleveland Terrace we took this picture on the Monday (August 31) of back-section properties in Nile Street, in the area below the Nile Street bridge. The Maitai River backs on to these properties. The picture was taken late in the afternoon as residents prepared for another emergency which, fortunately, did not eventuate. At this time the Civil Defence organisation issued orders for the evacuation of homes in Nile Street, but when the river began to recede many were able to return home. On the Saturday night flood waters reached a much higher level than they were when this picture was taken.
