Swimming Carnival

Visiting swimmers added to the interest of a swimming carnival run by the Nelson club at the Municipal Pool. Of particular interest was the performance of backstroker B. Knowles of Feilding. His time in the 100 yards event, when converted to the metric equivalent, was two seconds better than the qualifying standard for Commonwealth games selection. The carnival was held in brilliant sunshine and local swimmers more than held their own with visiting contestants.
