Accent on Sport

For the Nelson district, undoubtedly the sporting event of the year was the visit of the Rothmans Sports and Cultural Foundation team. Many of them, like Peter Snell, Don Clarke, Bert Sutcliffe and Helmer Pederson are household words, and all the others are equally as well-known in their respective sports. The team embarked on a coaching spree in Nelson, Richmond and Motueka, and several other districts received instruction on tennis at their centre courts. Their time, of course, was limited, but in the course of the five-day clinic, several thousand primary and secondary school pupils and adults were coached and instructed.
