Beach Racing at Tolaga Bay

It was more than fifty years since a sight like that printed above had been seen on the beach at Tolaga Bay.

And a sight it was, with thirty to forty horses thundering along the firm sands.

The race meeting, organised by the P.B. Polo Club, was held to raise funds for improvements at the club's Bushmere grounds.

It drew an attendance of more than 1000 people. Seven races were run and an equalisator catered for those who wanted a flutter.

The organisers selected the only fine day in weeks for the occasion.
