An unusual sight in the city streets these days is men on horseback. However, John Kimber (Matawai), Taffy Davis and John Sheridan were three such blokes recently and we shot them as they prepared to brave the traffic again after partaking of some refreshment in a city hostelry.

Found gallivanting around the Sullivan homestead at 1061 Aberdeen Road recently was this oversized slug. We wouldn't be sure of its proper name..but it could be McGerkinshaw

Pictured with this young albatross are Eric Wilkinson and Bill Gardiner. Eric brought the bird ashore from the trawler Golden Grain to have its picture taken, after which it was handed over to the Wild Life Department. The bird, which has a wihgspan of about 10 feet, was accidentally caught in the trawler's net off East Cape.

Seen in increasing numbers about the Gisborne area is this Cape Barren Crane. More at home in parts of the South Island, the bird seems to be finding the warmer climes just as much to its liking.
